They Say

They say you can't choose family.
I know we can't change our DNA
But I can walk away
From those who are negative...
Family or not.

Why put up with drama queens and kings?
Because they're family?
Is there some rule?
If so I have broken it.

Who needs a family that judges you?
Talk about what you wear
And shuns you for being Gay or Bi.
Who needs that negativity in their lives?

They only come around when they need you
And once you fall flat on your face
Asking for help from them..
They vanish.
What kind of family does that?

So you can keep saying that I can't choose my family
While I close the door and walk away with my head held high.
I may not be able to choose my DNA
But I can choose who stays in my life.
